UN food agency report raises safety concerns over recycled plastics in food packaging.
In its report titled ‘Food safety implications of recycled plastics and alternative food contact materials’, the FAO says serious questions must be raised around chemical safety as the share of recycled plastic in food contact materials grows. The agency called for discussion on globally harmonised standards and urged industry not to minimise potential health risks from chemical migration into food.
