U.S. grocery inflation reached its highest level since mid-2023 in April, Bureau of Labor Statistics data show.

Tomato prices were up nearly 40% year over year in April, the quickest rate of inflation among the food-at-home categories that the BLS tracks. Grocery inflation hit its highest level since mid-2023.
