**When Your Smoothie Tastes Like Cupcake…**
23h ago · 4 sources · launch
Innocent just turned the bakery aisle into a blender. The brand has launched a trio of dessert-inspired smoothies that channel strawberry cupcakes, blueberry muffin and lemon pie, without actually being dessert.
Under the hood, these are dairy-free smoothies made with coconut milk for a creamy, plant-based texture. They are free from added sugar, artificial sweeteners and flavourings, and they deliver fibre and vitamin C. Each bottle contains at least one portion of fruit, counting toward one of the UK’s five-a-day.
The rollout starts in Tesco, with wider distribution planned from September across Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Ocado. Format is doing a lot of work here. There is a 250ml pack aimed squarely at meal-deal traffic, and a 750ml bottle built for sharing at home.
Why it matters. Dessert flavor is the hook. Health credentials are the permission. Innocent is betting that shoppers want indulgence cues without the sugar baggage. Call it cake cosplay for the smoothie set.
The smart play might be the format split. The 250ml gets you into lunch baskets. The 750ml turns a “treat” into a family fridge staple. If this lands, expect more brands to blur the line between plant-based beverages and pudding. The future of smoothies may taste less like spinach and more like the bake sale.
