Frozen Giant, Cold Quarter

2h ago · 3 sources · earnings

Nomad Foods just posted a chilly start to 2026. Revenue fell 5.9% year on year to €715 million in Q1. Profit dropped 12% to €29 million. Adjusted EBITDA slid 22.9% to €93 million. Gross margin narrowed to 25.7%, down 210 basis points.

The pressure is coming from both sides. Volumes declined 4.4%. Price and mix slipped 0.9%. Adjusted EPS fell by €0.12 to €0.23. Inflation across the supply chain is still in the mix too.

Management says it has secured planned price increases, eliminated inefficient quarter end sales incentives and reshaped the organisation. At the same time, Nomad has hired Justin Bilingsley as chief marketing officer, joining on 7 May, as part of a broader leadership refresh. The Birds Eye owner reiterated its full year 2026 revenue and EBITDA guidance and even nudged adjusted EPS expectations up to €1.47-€1.62.

Here is the tension. Category growth may be accelerating, but Nomad’s volumes are not. When a frozen heavyweight sees both volume and price mix dip, that is more than a blip. The bet now sits on sharper execution and stronger brand building. If the new marketing chief can reignite demand across Europe, frozen could heat up again. If not, investors will keep asking why the freezer aisle is not delivering.
