**Owning the Lamb, From New Zealand to Germany**

3h ago · 3 sources · M&A

Dawn Meats just tightened its grip on the lamb trade.

The Irish processor has acquired German meat importer and distributor Alexander Eyckeler for an undisclosed sum. The move comes after Dawn bought a 65% stake in New Zealand’s Alliance Group in October 2025. Now it is pulling one of Alliance’s largest customers in-house.

Alexander Eyckeler supplies lamb, mutton and venison to retail, food service and cash and carry customers across Germany. The business will be folded into Dawn as part of the wider integration of Alliance into the group.

Step back and look at the scale. Dawn Meats generates more than €3bn in annual revenues. It employs over 8,000 people across 10 countries. The company processes about one million cattle and 3.5 million sheep a year.

Why it matters. This is not just another meat deal. Dawn is lining up supply and demand under one roof. It owns a majority stake in a major New Zealand supplier. Now it owns a key German route to market. Fewer middlemen. Tighter control. More leverage with customers.

The quiet insight. Protein scale is power. When you are already moving one million cattle and 3.5 million sheep a year, adding distribution is not about growth for growth’s sake. It is about locking in the flow. In a category where margins are tight, control beats volume every time.
