**When Candy Decides It’s an Energy Drink. And a Flag.**
3h ago · 3 sources · launch
Summer snacking season just turned into a mashup of function, flavor and full-on patriotism.
Alert Pop is pushing a clean caffeine lollipop made with organic green tea caffeine, sweetened with xylitol and erythritol, as an alternative to energy drinks. Energy candy is not subtle about what it wants to replace. Meanwhile, Hi-Chew dropped a Lychee & Raspberry Stick exclusively at Walgreens from May 1 through July 31, complete with a brighter package redesign. Hot Tamales went tropical with Fiery Lime, Mango Chili and Pineapple Picante, rolling into Walmart, Dollar Tree, Albertsons, Kroger and select regional grocers.
The flavor parade keeps going. My/Mochi added Cotton Candy. Barebells launched a Banana Bread Protein Bar. Little Latke introduced two new shelf-stable latke crisp flavors.
Then there is the red, white and blue wave. Coca-Cola kicked off an America250 campaign with limited-edition mini-cans featuring collectible designs for each of the 50 states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia, all celebrating the 250th birthday. Sparkling Ice teamed up with Mars for a Life Savers Red, White and Blue 12-pack, promoted with Flavor Flav. Pillsbury Funfetti rolled out Stars and Stripes Sprinkle Cake Mix and Red Swirl Cake Mix with dedicated endcaps at Walmart. Prairie Farms and Hiland Dairy launched Red, White & Boom ice cream and committed $250,000 to Folds of Honor.
Why it matters. Candy is stretching into caffeine. Protein keeps borrowing from bakery nostalgia. Limited-time patriotic packaging is everywhere. Brands are not just selling sugar or sparkle. They are selling moments. The contrarian take. In a sea of bold flavors and flag prints, the real moat might be distribution. Walgreens exclusives and Walmart endcaps still decide who wins summer.
