**When Ozempic Meets the Protein Bar**

GLP-1 is no longer a niche pharma story. Around 13.3% of US consumers are using GLP-1 medications today, and adoption is projected to hit 21% by 2030. That already translates to roughly 40 million Americans on these drugs.
The industry fear was simple. Fewer cravings. Smaller baskets. Category collapse.
Experts at the ABA Convention see it differently. GLP-1s are reshaping how, when and how much people eat. Think smaller portions and more frequent eating occasions, not a mass exit from bakery and snacks.
Retail is adjusting in real time. Holland & Barrett just partnered with Phlo to signpost shoppers to clinically supervised weight management services, without prescribing medication. The demand is obvious. 55% of UK adults wish they could manage their weight better. 64% are actively managing it. 33% are actively trying to lose weight.
Here is the twist. Roughly 1 in 10 GLP-1 users develop at least one new nutritional deficiency after six months. Appetite goes down. Nutrient gaps can go up.
Now layer in healthy ageing. Nestlé has launched its first drinks line aligned with longevity, and the elderly nutrition market is expected to reach $43.1bn by 2032.
Why it matters. GLP-1 does not kill food demand. It changes the brief. Smaller formats. Higher nutrient density. Protein that actually delivers. In India, 45.9% of rural and 38.7% of urban consumers still rely on cereals for protein, and ITC says there is significant room for growth due to low-quality intake.
The next growth wave is not less food. It is smarter food. Brands that sell nourishment, not just calories, win.
