**Cold-Pressed, Ice-Cold Debut**
1h ago · 4 sources · funding
Suja Life just hit the public markets and the reception was mixed.
The maker of cold-pressed juice, wellness shots and functional soda under Suja Organic, Vive Organic and Slice Soda raised $186.7 million in its IPO, selling 8.9 million shares at $21 each. That priced at the low end of its $21 to $24 range. Shares then opened at $18 and fell 14.3% in their Nasdaq debut, valuing the company at $695.3 million.
Still, nearly $200 million in fresh capital is nothing to sneeze at. The CEO says the proceeds will go toward expanding production and potentially pursuing an acquisition. Translation, more capacity and possibly more brands under the tent.
Suja Life is backed by Paine Schwartz Partners, which acquired the company in 2021 from Goldman Sachs Asset Management and co-investors. The IPO also marks the second public debut in the organic and health-focused consumer space this year, following Once Upon a Farm.
Why it matters: public investors are signaling that health and wellness is attractive, but price and profitability discipline still rule the day. You can sell the dream of organic beverages. You just cannot overprice it.
Quick take: the real story may be what Suja does next. With nearly $200 million to deploy, the bigger play could be consolidation in functional beverages. The stock dipped. The strategy window just opened.
